Achieve a superior level of maturity: Introducing Interdependence
Everywhere we turn, Independence seems to be hailed as the ultimate form of existence and a shield against vulnerability . But in the middle of this cultural emphasis on independence, I came across a notion that reconnected me with my humanity: interdependence.
I’ve always been an advocate for independence, but in my pursuit of deeper wisdom, I began to appreciate the inherent worth of interpersonal relationships. Though I had always placed a high value on independence and firmly believed that I could succeed on my own. Nevertheless, I overlooked the fundamental values of harmony and collaboration that guide our society in my obsession with self-sufficiency.
Rediscovering the significance of social interaction, I stumbled upon the concept of interdependence, which I’ll explore further here. Oxford English Dictionary defines it simply as “the fact or condition of depending each upon the other; mutual dependence.” This definition sets the stage for understanding the transformative potential of adopting an interdependent mindset.
